Interesting project management apps
I have used quite a lot of project management and digital workspace tools over the past several years, especially when I was working as a Notion consultant. It’s a very competitive field, and yet not everyone is aware of the options that are actually interesting/original and functional.
Some of the apps that I think it’s worth taking a look at. Some of them are open-source but most are, unfortunately, proprietary.
Table-focused - More excel-like, Smartsheet alternatives: https://quadratichq.com, Causal, Meisterplan - https://aitable.ai/ my favorite open-source airtable alternative, + a couple more: - https://baserow.io/ - https://www.rowy.io/
Board-focused - ClickUp, Basecamp, Asana, Monday - Fibery, Youtrack from Jetbrains - Linear, Shortcut, open-source Linear alternative https://plane.so/ - https://taiga.io/ - GitScrum https://about.gitscrum.com/en
Page-focused - Notion, Coda - Best open-source Notion alternative: https://anytype.io/
Experimental - https://boostnote.io : very feature-rich but not maintained anymore - https://totum.online/ : experimental, seems data-heavy
My personal favorite overall is Anytype - it has good user experience, is technically advanced, and very powerful in terms of functionality. Most importantly, it’s open-source. But it has a learning curve, unfortunately. Hopefully the devs figure out how to make it more accessible for a wider audience of non-techie users.
Otherwise, Fibery is a good option, even though it’s proprietary. Has a good combination of ClickUp-style UX, very rich feature set, and an intuitive interface.
